Already the most successful, time tested and cost-efficient crime camera program in the United States since 2009, Project NOLA dramatically increased its operational effectiveness in 2023, adding extremely powerful (yet socially responsible) Facial, Clothing, Vehicle & Bicycle Recognition to our Ultra-High Definition Crime Camera platform, which has very significantly helped the NOPD reduce Homicides by 37%, Non-Fatal Shootings by 43%, Armed Robberies by 56%, Carjackings by 49%, and Auto-Thefts by 44% YTD 2024!  Additionally, Project NOLA has helped NOPD Homicide dramatically increase their YTD 2024 case clearance/ solve rate to an amazing 65% (compared to National Average of 52%) and the 8th District's Violent Crime Clearance rate to over 80% ( TWICE the National Average of only 37%), greatly bucking rapidly declining national case-clearance rates.

8th District Crime Reduction Plan:

1.
Residents & Business owners host Project NOLA Ultra-High Definition Crime Cameras on Homes, Businesses, Churches and Schools that are Live Monitored at the NOPD 8th District Station & LSP Troop NOLA's HQ at the Cabildo to detect and engage crimes in Real-Time
2.
Project NOLA Facial Recognition Instantly Alerts the NOPD, LSP, FQTF and other LE Partners to the Live Presence of known Wanted Criminals & Criminal Defendants Violating their Terms of Release
3.
Project NOLA continues to closely work with the Orleans Parish District Attorney's Office, strengthening criminal cases against felony defendants to significantly increase opportunities for successful prosecutions and justice being served
4.
Crime CONTINUES to go DOWN, Quality of Life CONTINUES to go UP, and the Local Economy CONTINUES to be STIMULATED
Project NOLA Live Facial Recognition Crime Cameras automatically alert NOPD, LSP and others the moment a Wanted Subject is likely detected live on camera via a special mobile app, which instantly shows officers what the Subject is wanted for, their present clothing description and location.  Officers continue to receive additional LFR Alerts as Wanted Subjects walk from one Project NOLA Crime Camera to the next, allowing units to map the Subject's location to quickly intercept.
OPSO arrests Glenn Tate on 5/2/2024, after Project NOLA's Live Facial Recognition Alerted that Tate, who was at the time on New Orleans' Most Wanted List in connection to a shooting, had just entered the French Quarter.

Project NOLA greatly respects and prioritizes people's right to privacy. Raw footage and metadata from Project NOLA's nationwide network of crime cameras is securely stored on servers at Project NOLA's National Real-Time Crime Center located at the University of New Orleans, and is only used to assist Law Enforcement responding to Emergency Situations and Investigating Felony Crimes.  Project NOLA's Proprietary Data is automatically deleted and overwritten within two months, is never sold, and is not shared with third parties outside the public safety community.

Where legally permitted, Project NOLA operates Facial Recognition Crime Cameras installed on private and commercial property.  While authorized law enforcement personnel may remotely access camera video and receive automated alerts when a known wanted felon is potentially detected live on camera, only Project NOLA supervisors may access Facial Recognition data to conduct searches, which are strictly limited to assisting with felony investigations and missing persons cases.  A community based public safety initiative, Project NOLA does not use Facial Recognition to identify or locate individuals possibly facing deportation from the United States or involved in peaceful protests, unless an individual is also wanted for a Felony Crime.

Project NOLA unbiasedly treats all individuals equally without favoring with or discriminating against particular groups.  Safeguards in place to protect individuals right to privacy and freedom of expression include Project NOLA Crime Camera Hosts having the right to immediately terminate their participation with Project NOLA's community-based public safety initiative for any reason they may possibly deem necessary.
